This picture show the herbal plant "Ton Kook" or the commercial name "Odina Wodier", or by the sceintific name of Lannea coromandelicas, It is known that elephants eat this herb to rid it of the parasite worm. Our field staff tries to give it to Plai Thomyumkung but he denies eating it. Perhaps he doesn' t want it at this time because he doesn't have worms. So our field staff take it to grow and have it available for the elephants later. ต้นกุ๊ก หรือเรียกภาษาทางการค้าว่า Wodier เป็นพืชที่ช้างกินเพื่อเป็นยาสมุนไพรสำหรับถ่ายพยาธิ แต่เมื่อเจ้าหน้าที่ภาคสนามลำปาง ทดลองนำมาให้สีดอต้มยำกุ้งกิน ปรากฎว่าสีดอต้มยำกุ้งไม่ยอมกิน แสดงว่าช้างยังไม่มีความต้องการที่จะถ่ายพยาธิ และในขณะนี้เจ้าหน้าที่ของเราได้นำมาขยายพันธุ์เพื่อเป็นสมุนไพรของช้างต่อไป

Khun Sivaporn Dardarananda, Secretary-General of Elephant Reintroduction Foundation gives a cheque to Khun Sarun Pinyarat for his work on "Children's TV Ad -Elephant Grows the Forest Animation" on November 5, 2007. Animation we developed to teach children about the importance of the elephant in looking after the forest and wildlife. Khun Sarun is a 5th year student in Industrial Design Department, Chulalongkorn University. เมื่อวันที่ 5 พฤศจิกายน 2550 คุณศิวะพร ทรรทรานนท์ เลขาธิการมูลนิธิคืนช้างสู่ธรรมชาติ ได้มอบเช็คให้แก่นายศรันย์ ภิญญรัตน์ นักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 5 คณะออกแบบอุตสาหกรรม จุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย เพื่อเป็นค่าตอบแทนสำหรับการจัดทำการ์ตูนสั้น เรื่อง "โครงการช้างปลูกป่า" วัตถุประสงค์ในการจัดทำภาพยนตร์การ์ตูนเรื่องนี้ขึ้นมา ก็เพื่อใช้เป็นสื่อในการสอนให้เยาวชนได้เห็นถึงความสำคัญของช้างในการดูแลป่าและสัตว์ป่าอื่น

Elephant in Musth

Seedor Thomyumkung is in musth. We can see musth fluid coming out from the temple on his head and droozing down toward his mouth. Supposedly, when the fluid enters the elephant's mouth his behavior will change even more. Now our staff is monitoring him closely to follow his behavior during the musth. So far he has been peaceful, but solitary. ช่วงนี้สีดอต้มยำกุ้งมีอาการตกมัน สังเกตุจากช่วงบริเวณขมับข้างๆ มีน้ำมันไหลออกมามากทั้งสองข้าง คาดว่า น้ำมันที่ตกออกมานี้เมื่อไหลเข้าไปยังปากช้างจะทำให้พฤติกรรมของช้างเปลี่ยนไป โดยเราได้ให้เจ้าหน้าที่ภาคสนามเผ้าสังเกตุพฤติกรรมอย่างใกล้ชิด ขณะนี้สีดอต้มยำกุ้งได้อยู่ตัวเดียวอย่างสงบ ไม่แสดงอาการดุร้ายแต่อย่างใด

Field staff is making the salt lick for Seedor Thomyumkung near where he stay while he is getting in musth. เจ้าหน้าที่ภาคสนาม(ลำปาง) กำลังทำโป่งเทียมใกล้ๆ กับบริเวณที่สีดอต้มยำกุ้งอยู่ เพื่อให้สีดอต้มยำกุ้งเดินมากินได้สะดวก

Vetiver Check Dam- "Fai Faek"

Check dam is made by our field staff (Lopburi) near Camp1.. They plant the vetiver glass on the top of sand bags which are filled with earth and fertilizer. The long and strong roots of the vetiver grass will grow and stitch the sand bags together for added strength. That is why we call it: "Fai Faek" or "Vetiver Check Dam". The V shape of the check dam also provides reinforcement during heavy water flows. เจ้าหน้าที่ภาคสนามลพบุรี ช่วยกันทำฝายกั้นน้ำผสมผสานแบบพิเศษ โดยมูลนิธิฯได้ตั้งชื่อว่า "ฝายแฝก" โดยมีวิธีการสร้าง คือ ทำโครงไม้ให้เป็นรูปตัววีคว่ำ ขวางลำน้ำไว้ จากนั้น จัดเรียงกระสอบทรายไปตามแนวโครงไม้ที่สร้างไว้ เมื่อมีน้ำไหลมาปะทะ รูปทรงตัววีคว่ำจะช่วยเสริมแรงให้แก่ฝายตามหลักกลศาสตร์ หลังจากนั้น นำหญ้าแฝกมาปลูกไว้บนกระสอบทรายชั้นบนสุด โดยในกระสอบทราย เราได้บรรจุดินผสมปุ๋ยและทราย เพื่อให้หญ้าแฝกเจริญเติบโตได้ดี เมื่อหญ้าแฝกโตขึ้น รากที่แข็งแรงจะชอนไชลึกลงไปช่วยยึดให้ฝายแฝกของเราแข็งแรงมากขึ้นเป็นการช่วยเสริมแรงอีกทางหนึ่ง

Elephants Romance at Midnight

The pictures of Plai Sila(31 years old) breeding with Pang Mae Kammoon(35) were taken by Bushnell Trail Sentry Camera in Sublangka Wildlife Sanctuary after midnight on Oct. 29, 2007. This is the first observation of the Foundation's elephants mating in the wild. We attached the Bushnell cameras on trees near where the elephants gathered so we were able to get these photos without the presence of humans to disturb the elephants. เหตุเกิดเมื่อกลางดึกของคืนวันที่ 29 ตุลาคม 2550,พลายศิลาอายุ 31 ปีกำลังแสดงความรักต่อ แม่คำมูล อายุ35 ปี

ซึ่งภาพนี้เป็นภาพแรกที่กล้องอัตโนมัต Bushnell ของมูลนิธิคืนช้างสู่ธรรมชาติที่ติดตั้งซ่อนไว้ในป่าซับลังกา สามารถจับภาพการผสมพันธุ์ของช้างได้ในธรรมชาติ โดยที่มนุษย์ไม่ได้มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องหรือให้ความช่วยเหลือแต่อย่างใด

New Elephant: Thom Yum Kung is introduced to our staff

Field staffs (Lampang) rehabilitate Seedor Tomyumkung. He is the new elephant came in The Foundation on October 19, 2007. Moreover, he is in musth but field staff try to get used to with him then he becomes less tense and our field staff can stay near him.

เจ้าหน้าที่ภาคสนาม (ลำปาง) กำลังปรับพฤติกรรมของสีดอต้มยำกุ้ง เนื่องจากสีดอต้มยำกุ้งเป็นช้างที่มูลนิธิฯรับเข้าโครงการเมื่อวันที่ 19 ตุลาคม 2550 และมีอาการตกมัน จึงไม่คุ้นเคยกับสถานที่และผู้ดูแล ทำให้เกิดความหวาดระแวง เจ้าหน้าที่ไม่สามารถเข้าใกล้ได้ โดยในวันนี้ทางเจ้าหน้าที่ได้ทดลองปรับพฤติกรรมโดยการเข้าไปทักทายกับสีดอต้มยำกุ้ง เพื่อผ่อนคลายความหวาดระแวง จนสีดอต้มยำกุ้งยอมให้เราอยู่ใกล้ๆ ได้

"Elephants Raid Rice Field"- Fact: The Elephants Visit Old Salt Lick

Farmer point at the way Pang Thongbai and Pang Boonmee passed through the rice farm to eat salt lick near Mae Poo Brook. Same as the last year in November, Pang Thongbai and Pang Boonmee came to this area to have some salt at this salt lick. As you see, the elephants have made a clearing around the salt lick so that they can see any other animals that may be coming thru the tall rice. The elephants do not appear to have eaten any rice plants, contrary to popular farmers' understanding.

เจ้าของนาข้าวที่ได้รับความเสียหายกำลังชี้บริเวณที่พังทองใบ และพังบุญมี เข้ามากินโป่ง โดยเดินผ่านทุ่งนาที่กำลังปลูกข้าวของชาวบ้าน อยู่ใกล้ๆ กับห้วยแม่ปู ซึ่งเป็นช่วงเดียวกันกับเมื่อต้นเดือนพฤศจิกายน ปีที่แล้ว พังทองใบ และพังบุญมี ก็ได้ออกมากินโป่งบริเวณนี้เช่นกัน

Dr.Sumet plants the golden yellow tree which receives from General Surayud Chulanont, Prime Minister from The National Program"Do Good for Father" at The Foundation Lampang. ดร.สุเมธ ได้ ปลูกต้นกล้าราชพฤกษ์ ที่รับมอบจาก พลเอกสุรยุทธ์ จุลานนท์ นายกรัฐมนตรี จาก "โครงการทำดีเพื่อพ่อ" บริเวณหน้าพลับพลาพิธีปล่อยช้างของสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ

Then visit Pang Saitaa at The Elepant Hospital at Camp 1 and visit The Elephant Cemetery near pond 1.

จากนั้นเดินทางเข้าเยี่ยมพังสายตา ที่โรงพยาบาลช้าง แคมป์ 1 และชมสุสานช้าง บริเวณสระ 1 ที่ทางมูลนิธิฯได้ทำขึ้นเพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์สำหรับช้างที่เสียชีวิตไปแล้ว
