Khun Chonsaporn Apiwongngam, our staff at Chiangmai office visit an elephant baby (age: 1 month) at The National Elephant Institute, Lampang.
Because the mother elephant does not have breast milk, donors have donated soybean powered milk and money for the baby elephant. Her Majesty Queen Sirikit has also graciously donated Baht 300,000 as Royal Gift for the baby elephant.
We talked with Mor Thaveepoke and made two recommendations:
1. First the mother elephant may be unable to produce milk because she is a captive elephant and the food given to her by the owner may lack the natural minerals and vitamins necessary for her to produce natural milk. So the mother elephant should be fed various herbs and plants that are known for stimulating milk production. Hopefully, after treatment the mother will be able to produce milk.
2. With the monetary donations received , better than buying soybean powered milk, an effort should be made to hired an elephant than can help breast feed this baby so that the baby will obtain the necessary hormones and antibodies present in natural elephant milk.
คุณชลษพร อภิวงค์งาม แวะเยี่ยมลูกช้างที่เพิ่งเกิดได้ 1 เดือน ที่สถาบันคชบาลแห่งชาติ และเนื่องจากแม่ช้างไม่สามารถผลิตน้ำนมได้ จึงมีผู้บริจาคนมผงและเงินสำหรับลูกช้างเชือกนี้ ซึ่งสมเด็จพระนางฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถได้ทรงพระราชทานทรัพย์จำนวน 300,000 บาท เพื่อเป็นของขวัญสำหรับช้างน้อยเชือกนี้ด้วย และเพื่อเป็นการแก้ไขปัญหาเรื่องนี้ มูลนิธิคืนช้างสู่ธรรมชาติโดยคุณศิวะพร ทรรทรานนท์ เลขาธิการมูลนิธิฯ ได้เสนอแนวความคิดแก่นายสัตว์แพทย์ทวีโภค เป็น 2 แนวทางดังนี้
1. การที่แม่ช้างไม่สามารถผลิตน้ำนมได้ เนื่องจากแม่ช้างเป็นช้างเลี้ยง ดังนั้นอาหารที่ได้รับจากเจ้าของจึงค่อนข้างที่จะขาดแคลนคุณค่าทางโภชนาการและวิตามินที่จำเป็นต่อการผลิตน้ำนม เพื่อให้แม่ช้างสามารถผลิตน้ำนมได้เองตามธรรมชาติ จึงเห็นว่า ควรให้อาหารประเภทที่เป็นสมุนไพรและพันธุ์พืชที่มีคุณสมบัติในการกระตุ้นเพื่อผลิตน้ำนมแก่แม่ช้าง
2. เห็นว่า การนำเงินที่ได้รับจากการบริจาคไปเช่าช้างที่สามารถผลิตน้ำนมได้ น่าจะเป็นแนวทางที่ดีกว่าการนำเงินไปซื้อนมผงมาให้ลูกช้างดื่มกิน เนื่องจากน้ำนมที่ผลิตจากแม่ช้างโดยธรรมชาติมีฮอโมนที่สำคัญเป็นส่วนประกอบและยังสามารถสร้างภูมิคุ้มกันให้แก่ลูกช้างได้ด้วย
