ในวันที่ 24 ธันวาคม 2552 สพ.ญ.ณัฎฐา มณีวรรณ สัตว์แพทย์ประจำมูลนิธิ ได้ทำการตรวจชันสูครเพื่อหาสาเหตุการเสียชีวิตของพังบุญสม โดยมี อ.น.สพ.ดร.ฉัตรโชติ ทิตาราม และอ.น.สพ.เฉลิมชาติ สมเกิด สัตวแพทย์ที่ปรึกษา รวมถึง ผศ.สพญ.จุรีย์รัตน์ สำเร็จประสงค์ รองคณบดีฝ่ายวิจัยและบริการวิชาการ สัตวแพทย์และเจ้าหน้าที่ประจำหน่วยชันสูตรโรคสัตว์ คณะสัตวแพทยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ เข้าร่วมในการปฏิบัติงานในครั้งนี้ด้วย และจากผลการชันสูตรเบื้องต้นสันนิษฐานว่าสาเหตุของการเสียชีวิตอาจเกิดจากการติดเชื้อภายในโพรงไซนัสและช่องอากาศในกะโหลก อย่างไรก็ดีจำเป็นต้องมีการตรวจวินิจฉัยทางห้องปฏิบัติการอื่นๆร่วมด้วยเพื่อยืนยันผลการวินิจฉัยหรือหาสาเหตุการเสียชีวิตที่แท้จริงต่อไป
On December 24th, 2009, Dr.Nattar Maneewan, the veterinarian of foundation, Dr.Chatchote Thitaram and Dr.Chalearmchad Somgird, the consulting veterinarians of the foundation, and Assist. Prof Jureerat Samretphasong, Associate Dean, with the team from the pathology department, faculty of veterinary medicine, Chiangmai University, performed Pang Boonsom's necropsy to diagnose her cause of death. Besides, the primary diagnosis found that the infection of maxillary sinus and skull cavities is suspected to be the death cause. However, future laboratory examination is necessary to do to confirm or rule out the diagnosis. In addition, her brain was removed for further studies by Dr. Nattar and her reproductive organs were removed for examination by Dr. Chatchote.
