Sufficiency Economy Elephant Tracking
Khun Bundit Saowan tests the prototype GPS - GSM elephant tracking device which we are developing for use in keeping track of the Foundation's elephants. The device will send its GPS position via SMS to the Foundation's PC which will place a cursor on the map as to the location of the elephant. Here Khun Bundit pretends to be an elephant wandering somewhere in Karnchanaburi. Locally available equipment costs about Baht 20,000. The total cost of the elephant GPS- GSM collar, once completed should be about 1/10 of the GPS - GSM collars currently available in the world market. The only problem is the availability of the cellular coverage in the areas where our elephants are living. AIS cellular provider is currently considering installing some cell sites for us.
