Khun Thepanom Siriwitthayarak, Chairman of the Northeastern Farmers Alliance and Chairman of the Surin Province Elephant Owners Society, takes us to inspect 10 Surin elephants for sale in the Pattaya area. Elephants are poorly fed with a diet mainly of pineapple plants and waste. คุณเทพพนม ศิริวิทยารักษ์ ประธานสมัชชาชาวนาภาคอีสาน ชมรมคนเลี้ยงช้างจังหวัดสุรินทร์ ได้เชิญเจ้าหน้าที่มูลนิธิฯ ไปตรวจสอบช้างที่พัทยา ซึ่งเป็นช้างที่จะติดต่อขายให้กับทางมูลนิธิฯ จำนวน 10 เชือก ซึ่งคุณเทพพนมเป็นผู้ที่ลงสมัครรับเลือกตั้งสมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฏรจังหวัดสุรินทร์ในวาระที่จะถึงนี้ โดยมีนโยบายที่จะช่วยเหลือคนยากจน สภาพความเป็นอยู่ของช้างในพัทยา : ปัจจุบันมีช้างที่นำมาสู่ธุรกิจการท่องเที่ยวกว่า 100 เชือก ซึ่งเป็นจำนวนที่มากกว่าความต้องการของตลาด จนกระทั่งเจ้าของช้างมีรายได้ไม่พอเพียงที่จะสามารถจะเลี้ยงดูช้างได้เป็นอย่างดี เดิมเจ้าของช้างจะจำนองหรือขายที่นาของตนเองแล้วนำเงินมาซื้อช้าง หลังจากนั้นช้างเหล่านี้จะถูกนำมาเป็นช้างเชิงธุรกิจท่องเที่ยว ซึ่งช้างเหล่านี้จะถูกเลี้ยงดูอย่างไม่เหมาะสม และได้รับอาหารอย่างไม่เพียงพอ เช่นต้นสับปะรดและอาหารที่ไม่มีคุณค่าเป็นต้น
