Four Stages of Elephant Musth

• 1st Stage - The body is very healthy and the temple is swollen.
• 2nd Stage - Musth fluid coming out from small orifices on his temple(temporal glands). At this step some elephant can control themself but some can't.
• 3rd Stage - Musth fluid comes out from his temple on his head and droozing down into his mouth and the elephant's behavior will change toward being aggressive because of the musth fluid influence.
• 4th Stage - The musth fluid come out from his sexual organ.

Most domesticated elephants get in musth until Stage 2 only because of the mahout have by then reduced food to limit their energy and the musth period will stop. Now Seedor Thomyumkung has reached the 4th Stage, a stage rarely observed by humans. Mor Taweepoke confirm that it was good sign for him because he was fully completing his musth period.

จากอาการตกมันของสีดอต้มยำกุ้งในขณะนี้ น.สพ.ทวีโภค อังควานิช สัตวแพทย์ที่ปรึกษามูลนิธิฯ ได้อธิบายว่า ปกติอาการช้างตกมันจะเกิดขึ้น เมื่อช้างมีสภาพความพร้อมของร่างกายที่สมบูรณ์ โดยเราสามารถแบ่งการตกมันของช้างออกเป็น 4 ระยะดังนี้

• ระยะที่ 1 จะสังเกตเห็นว่า ขมับของช้างจะเริ่มมีอาการบวม
• ระยะที่ 2 บริเวณขมับช้างที่มีอาการบวม จะมีน้ำมันซึมออกมาจากต่อมน้ำมันใต้ขมับ ซึ่งในระยะนี้ช้างบางตัวก็สามารถควบคุมได้ แต่บางตัวก็ไม่สามารถควบคุมได้
• ระยะที่ 3 เมื่อน้ำมันที่ซึมออกมาจากระยะที่ 2 ไหลเข้าปากช้าง จะทำให้ช้างมีพฤติกรรมที่เปลี่ยนไป บางตัวอาจดุร้าย เนื่องมาจากการเมาน้ำมัน
• ระยะที่ 4 คือระยะสุดท้ายของการตกมัน ช่วงนี้จะสังเกตเห็นว่า ช้างจะมีน้ำมันไหลที่อวัยวะเพศ

ซึ่งหากช้างตัวใดที่มีอาการตกมันได้ครบทั้ง 4 ระยะ ถือว่า ดีมาก เนื่องจากมีการตกมันอย่างสมบูรณ์ที่สุด แต่โดยปกติแล้ว ช้างส่วนใหญ่จะมีอาการตกมันแค่ระยะที่ 2 เท่านั้น เนื่องจากผู้ดูแลช้างจะทำการควบคุมเรื่องการให้อาหารของช้าง ซึ่งเป็นสาเหตทำให้ช้างสิ้นสุดการตกมันแค่ในระยะนี้เท่านั้น จากการเฝ้าดูพฤติกรรมของสีดอต้มยำกุ้งที่กำลังตกมันอย่างใกล้ชิด ทำให้ทราบว่า ขณะนี้การตกมันของสีดอต้มยำกุ้งอยู่ในระยะที่ 4 เนื่องจากมีน้ำมันหยดออกมาจากอวัยวะเพศตลอดเวลา ในขณะที่น้ำมันที่เคยซึมออกมาจากขมับทั้งสองข้างของสีดอต้มยำกุ้งเริ่มมีจำนวนลดน้อยลงตามลำดับ
