Elephant Spa -Mud Pond : บ่อน้ำของช้างกับบ่อโคลน

Top photo: The dried mud pond where the forestry officials wanted to dig a water hole. We determined from the color of the earth that this mud pond where the soil was gray, contained various minerals and it was important for elephants in this state. And that the pond should not be dug up. During the rainy season this pond would be filled with small layer of water and the elephants would use it for a mud bath. Then they would go to the nearby trees (bottom photo) and massage the mud onto their bodies. We believe that this frequent event during the wet season when there are lots of mosquitoes and other insects and the mud coated skin protects the elephants.
